The Summit for Life charity event is an exciting weekend of fundraising that revolves around the night time snowshoe race to the top of Aspen Mountain. That’s right, all 3,267 vertical feet of Aspen Mountain is conquered in the dark by over 300 racers! Book your stay with ResortQuest for some of the best Aspen lodging deals .
The Summit for Life race, on Saturday, December 12th 2009, has racers of all ages, physical ability, and they come from all over the country to participate in this amazing event to educate about donor organ and tissue awareness. All racers choose their own method of lighting the way, and can use any non-motorized equipment like snowshoes, skins, etc.
There are two different start times when you go to register.
- Recreational Start is at 5:15 p.m. for climbers who anticipate taking longer than two hours to reach the top.
- Competitive Start is at 6:00 p.m. for those who will finish in under two hours.
Cost to register is $40 before the race and $50 day of. All racers commit to raise $160 in pledges. All fees include race support, aid stations, dinner at the Sundeck, live music, raffle, awards and a great racer-bag. Racers are encouraged to raise as much money as possible for a chance to win great prizes and support a great cause.
People who want to skip the hike but still want to be a part of Summit for Life have two options.
- Ride for Life for $60, buys you a ride on the Silver Queen Gondola to the summit to enjoy dinner, drinks and dancing at the Sundeck.
- Snowed In is a way to support Summit for Life from the comfort of your home, hotel or if you are not able to make it to Aspen by donating to the cause. All support is welcome!
